After coming within .0111-second of his first Top Fuel round win three weeks ago at Reading, Pa., Clay Millican gets another opportunity when the NHRA Las Vegas Nationals begins its three-day run Friday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“Thanks to Kenny Koretsky’s Nitro Fish Ultimate Gear and a marketing partnership with Weld Racing this weekend we will be racing at one of Kenny’s favorite cities,” Millican said. “Probably more than anything, I am happy to be able to drive our Nitro Fish/Weld Racing dragster. That’s what I really like to do.
“It’s also gratifying to have Kenny and Weld Racing help us get back to the track and, in a round-about way, to be involved with Peter Lehman again. Peter is one of the principal owners of Weld Racing and he is the one who got me started driving Top Fuel dragsters. It’s neat and I’m excited about it. We have all kinds of things going on for next year and this is a good opportunity for our team to continue building toward it.”
Koretsky said he was “happy we were able to work with Weld Racing to get Clay’s team to Vegas. We like to see Clay at the track. I hope they continue to run well.”
Millican qualified 11th and posted his quickest run, 3.864 seconds at 313.88 mph, in the opening round at Reading but fell a few feet short of getting the win light against Antron Brown.
“I am looking forward to giving (new co-crew chiefs) Justin Crosslin and Mike Domalaga a few more shots at making the car run quicker,” Millican said. “Hopefully they can continue the trend they started at Reading.”
“We are thrilled to be teaming up with Koretsky and Nitro Fish to bring Clay and his team to Las Vegas,” said Weld Racing President Scott Mackie. “Clay and I have been friends for a long time. His dragster will be outfitted with the latest in Weld Racing wheels.”
