SARVER, Penn — July 19, 2011 — Steve Kinser was running away with what appeared to be a third triumph in the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup and a $15,000 pay day. However, with two laps to go, “The King of the Outlaws,” made a rare and costly mistake. Kinser went high and turn two and ended up going over the edge of the wall-less track and off the racing surface. The 20 time champion gathered it back up and made it to the back straightaway but by then, the damage was done.
“It was like Christmas man,” said a smiling Tim Shaffer whose Weld Racing wheel equipped sprint car sped past Kinser to collect the win and the 20th edition of the Silver Cup. “Steve Kinser rarely makes a mistake and you have to take advantage of it if he does. We had a great car all evening long and our car worked very well. It was a very racy surface and our car ran extremely well all night long. This is just awesome.”
