Wednesday night at the Knoxville Raceway, Shane Stewart made a lap 21 pass on Chad Kemenah in his Weld Racing wheel equipped sprint car to pick up the win on opening night of the 50th Annual Knoxville Nationals. The night started off with Shane timing in with the 13th fastest lap amongst the 50 entrants, putting him in the third heat race.
After a quick motor swap prior to the heat, Shane quickly disposed of Zach Zimmerly and Justin Henderson to climb into the third spot from his sixth place start. As the field strung out, Shane held third, and transferred into the night’s 25 lap feature event. From his sixth starting position in the feature event, Shane made quick work of Davey Heskin, and Zach Gravel to put his #57 into the third spot, on the first lap before a caution flew over the speedway. When the green flag waved, the 2010 360 Nationals Champion quickly began pressuring Brandon Wimmer for the second position. On the fourth lap Shane pulled along side Wimmer, and continued to stalk him until he made his move down the front stretch on the eighth lap. Once in second, Shane quickly began running the top side of the speedway and tracking down race leader Chad Kemenah. As Kemenah entered traffic on the 15th lap, Shane began close in to on the race leader. Heading out of turn two on the 20th lap, Stewart pulled alongside Kemenah, and made his pass for the lead at the flag stand on the 21st lap.
Once in the lead Stewart motored and grabbed his third straight win at the Knoxville Raceway, and his second career Knoxville Nationals preliminary night feature event.
