WELD Partners with I-70 Motorsports Park
Kansas City, Missouri, September 16, 2021 – WELD Racing has entered into a partnership with I-70 Motorsports Park, the historic race track located in Odessa, MO. WELD has a longstanding connection to the facility and the commercial partnership will include on-site branding and sales throughout the park in addition to continued opportunities for product testing. “We’re excited to partner with one of the premier motorsports facilities in Missouri,” said Andres Cisneros, President of MW Company. “The alliance will allow us to continue featuring the WELD brand and our products designed for the racing series and classes in which we have participated for decades. We see this partnership as a great opportunity to showcase our high-performance brand to motorsport fans and automotive enthusiasts.” For many years, the I-70 Motorsports Park was the home track of the WELD brand. Opened in 1969, it’s where founder Greg Weld tested and developed many of his early wheel concepts that would become the company’s legendary designs. In fact, Weld bought the track from the family that built it, such was its importance to the company’s development. Used regularly until 2008, the 52-year-old speedway and neighboring Kansas City International Raceway have both been rejuvenated over the past 24 months, and combined into one location by co-owner Chris Payne and his team. The new facility is set to host a number of large-scale events on both the dirt oval and NHRA drag strip, which is scheduled to open later this year. Originally designed as a NASCAR track, which has seen both clay and asphalt racing surfaces, the I-70 Motorsports Park renovation has seen a considerable expansion, from the original 253-acre site to what is now almost 600 acres. This has allowed a significant increase in the available space for RV parking and camping, which is built around a lake and woodland area. Payne also plans to hold music festivals and concerts on the site, similar in stature to the country music festival he has hosted at the Heartland Motorsports Park in Kansas for the past 25 years. With so much history, Payne also plans to build a museum on the site to celebrate the life and times of the tracks. It will recount many of the records and achievements established by local and national drivers who helped to establish the reputation of the tracks. “WELD has been part of our history for more than 50 years,” Payne commented. “So, it’s a dream come true for us to have the opportunity to partner with this historic brand. We look forward to sharing more exciting news about the partnership with the racers and fans as the 2021 season continues.” As part of the agreement, I-70 Motorsports Park will become a WELD retailer, allowing its staff to meet the wheel needs of the racing and fan communities. It will give them an opportunity to inquire about and purchase wheels for racing and road cars while enjoying the facilities the track offers.
