After a 19 hour travel adventure that featured almost every type of modern transportation, we were welcomed to Birmingham by traditional British weather, 34 degrees and rain. After checking in, we found a small British pub for some traditional fish and chips. It’s England after all.
Autosport is held at the NEC. It occupies 6 halls and features a go-kart track, stunt driving demonstration, drift rides, and live action exhibition section with full size car races, all inside. Being England and located only a few kilometers from 7 Formula One teams, the influence of F1 and rally is obvious at the show. The centerpiece of this year’s event was the history of Williams Grand Prix. Williams brought their mobile hospitality and technical center (centre?) as well as a dozen dames of Williams race cars. Interestingly they brought the Jaguar show car they built for the last Bond movie Spectre.
American drag racing is on the rise in England. With historic tracks like Santa Pod, the growth of American based racing is obvious. Numerous cars in the show floor had WELD V-Series and Alumastars. It was gratifying to see the global reach of our products.
Examples of the WELD Delta 1 and CCW Hybrid wheels are on display with Titan Motorsports. They have a booth in the Autosport Engineering hall and have been developing a sales network here for some time.
We had numerous productive meetings with top car constructors and race series. The addition of HiPer to the WELD family has been noticed overseas and there is great interest in both the technology and the products as UTV racing is coming to England in a big way.
Day 2 will hold more meetings and potential. Updates to follow.
